How a wool coat lasts ten years
What wears a coat out is not wearing it but storing it badly and cleaning it too often. Four rules from Sevda, who presses every coat in our workshop.

The ÜLGÜ workshop
Hang it for a night after every wear
Wool takes in moisture and gives it back overnight. Do not put the coat straight into the wardrobe: leave it in the open first, on a wide wooden hanger. A thin wire hanger pulls the shoulder out of shape in two weeks.
If it got wet in the rain, keep it away from the heater. Let it dry at room temperature with the buttons undone.
A brush, not sticky tape
A sticky roller lifts lint but leaves glue on the cloth, and dust then gathers faster. Use a soft horsehair brush, from the top down, in the direction of the nap. Once a week is enough.
Dry cleaning: once or twice a season
Each cleaning takes away a little of the wool’s natural oil. With no stains, once in mid-season and once before you put the coat away is enough. Take a small stain out with cold water and wool wash: press with a damp cloth, do not rub.
In summer: clean, in a cover, away from moths
Moths do not eat clean wool: they eat wool that carries traces of sweat and food. So have the coat cleaned before you store it. Keep it in a cotton cover, not a plastic one: wool has to breathe. Put cedar wood or lavender in the wardrobe.
Every ÜLGÜ coat comes with a cotton cover and a wide hanger. If you have lost yours, collect a new one free at the workshop boutique.
