Preparatory class, ages 5–6
The year before school: reading and writing readiness, numbers, English every day, groups of 16.

The preparatory class takes children who are five by 15 September. Each group has 16 children and two adults, a teacher and an assistant. The day runs from 09:00 to 15:00; lessons last 30 minutes, with active games, time in the yard and lunch in between.
By the end of the year children know their letters, read words syllable by syllable, count and add within 20 and write their own name. Each child gets there at their own pace: once a month the teacher meets the parents to go over what has clicked and what is still hard.
Groups are taught in Azerbaijani or in Russian. Both have English every day, through songs, games and picture cards.
