The Baku–Tbilisi night train is back: what to know
After six years the train came back on 26 May 2026. The timetable, the cars, tickets and the border.

On 26 May 2026 the Baku–Tbilisi passenger train ran again after six years. Azerbaijan’s land crossings had been closed to passengers since 2020, so in that time Georgia could only be reached by air. The other land crossings are still closed, while the train runs daily in both directions.
Timetable
- Leaves Baku at 23:10, arrives in Tbilisi at 08:41.
- Leaves Tbilisi at 21:00, arrives in Baku at 06:24.
- Stops: Bilajari, Yevlakh, Ganja, Aghstafa, Boyuk Kasik and, in Georgia, Gardabani.
The timetable was announced as provisional and may change: check it on Azerbaijan Railways’ site before you travel.
Cars and tickets
The train is made up of Stadler sleeper cars in comfort, comfort+ and luxury classes. Tickets are sold on the ADY website, in its app and at station ticket offices; the price depends on the date, the class and the berth.
The border
Border checks are done on board. Azerbaijani citizens need a passport and no visa for Georgia. Citizens of other countries should check the rules for crossing by train before buying a ticket.
We built a 5-day tour around the timetable: we leave on Thursday night, spend two nights in Tbilisi and are back in Baku at 06:24 on Monday.
