To Türkiye with an ID card: who can and how

Since 2021 you can travel without a passport, on three conditions.

Hagia Sophia and Sultanahmet from the water

Under a protocol signed in Baku on 10 December 2020, since 1 April 2021 citizens of Azerbaijan and Türkiye may travel to each other’s country with their ID cards.

The conditions

  • The card must be the new type, issued since 1 September 2018.
  • The trip must be direct between the two countries. With a connection through a third country, take your passport.
  • The visa-free stay is up to 90 days.

If you go with a passport

Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months when you enter Türkiye.

On our tours

The Istanbul–Cappadocia tour flies direct from Baku, so an ID card works. Note the document type when booking, as we issue the tickets on it. The Jordan tour connects in Istanbul and needs a passport.
