About us

We opened in 2013 with two rooms and six instructors. Today we teach on two floors next to Ganjlik metro, in the evenings and at weekends, for people who come after work.

13 years in short

  1. 2013

    Rena Gasimova opened Pillə in two rented rooms in Nasimi district. The first courses were bookkeeping and Excel, and all six instructors were accountants and finance people.

  2. 2015

    Kanan Mirzayev joined as head of studies. A final project became compulsory for the certificate: at the end of the course everyone hands in a task from their own work.

  3. 2016

    We moved to 58 Atatürk Avenue: five rooms on the ground floor. The first Russian-language groups opened.

  4. 2019

    The corporate training department opened, with separate groups for companies’ staff and lessons at the company’s office.

  5. 2020

    In March lockdown moved lessons online. Live online groups stayed afterwards and now run in every field.

  6. 2021

    Certificates got numbers, so an employer can check one on the website.

  7. 2022

    We took the first floor as well: four more rooms and a computer lab with 20 workstations.

  8. 2024

    The data and design fields grew: Power BI, SQL, Python and UX/UI with Figma.

  9. 2026

    29 courses in 6 fields, 45 instructors. Since 2013, 11,400 people have finished a course (October 2026).

The centre and its rooms

The rooms are small and groups are 8 to 20 people. Every room has a screen or a projector, a whiteboard and Wi-⁠Fi; four rooms have a camera and microphone for hybrid groups.

The building has the front desk, a reading corner (course books you can take home), a tea room and a balcony for breaks. The entrance is from the street and a lift goes to the first floor.

How we choose instructors

Every instructor works in their field: banks, telecoms, retail, audit. They teach after work, so the examples come from yesterday’s job.

Meet the instructors

  • At least 5 years in the field

    Someone who still works on the subject of the course. We do not take people who left their job to become teachers.

  • A trial lesson

    A 30-⁠minute lesson for the head of studies and three former learners. Then the programme is written with our methodologist.

  • Feedback after every course

    Learners rate the instructor out of 5 at the end of each course. If the average falls below 4 on two courses in a row, the instructor gets no new group.

    Ran a bank’s staff training department for ten years. Opened Pillə in 2013 with two classrooms and six instructors; every new course starts with her approval.

    A mathematician, with the academy since 2015. Course programmes, choosing instructors and checking lessons sit with his team: he sits in on at least one lesson of every group.

  • Non-formal education

    Under the Law on Education our courses are non-formal education (article 1.0.31), which comes with no state document. Those who finish get Pillə’s own certificate.

  • Numbered certificates

    Every certificate has a number. The holder’s name, the course, the hours and the final score can be checked on the website by that number.

  • International exams

    PMP, ACCA or Microsoft certificates are issued only by those bodies. Pillə is not their partner or exam centre; some courses cover an exam’s topics.
