The Göyçay plant began taking in pomegranates on 1 October. The season runs to mid-December: the plant takes in up to 180 tonnes a day, with 60 seasonal workers on two shifts.
The price we pay
The price is posted at the plant gate every morning. On 6 October it was ₼0.55 a kilo for Gulöysha, Bala Mursal and Shah nar; loads above 16 Brix earn ₼0.05 a kilo more. Payment goes to a bank account within 10 banking days.
Which fruit we accept
- At least 15 Brix; a sample is taken from every truck
- No more than 5% rotten or cracked fruit
- Brought in crates, not sacks, so the fruit is not crushed
- Every load gets an intake slip with its weight and Brix
The pomegranate festival
Göyçay holds its pomegranate festival every year at harvest time, in October or November. Azerbaijan’s pomegranate festival was inscribed on UNESCO’s list of intangible cultural heritage in 2020. During the festival the plant shop is open on Sunday too.
