How to choose a project management course

Everyday project work, an Agile team and the PMP exam are three different goals. Choose the course by the goal, and for the PMP read PMI’s own rules first.

What is the goal

  • Finishing a project on time and on budget: the plan, risks, stakeholders, reporting. That is the Project management course, 40 hours.
  • Working in sprints with a team: the backlog, planning, retrospectives. That is Agile and Scrum in practice, 20 hours.
  • Earning the PMP certificate: the exam’s topics and question types. That is PMP exam preparation, 40 hours.

PMP: the 35 hours and who decides

To apply for the PMP you need 35 hours of project management education or an active CAPM, and there is a separate experience requirement. A new exam content outline took effect in July 2026, and PMI has announced that from the end of the year only live training by its Authorized Training Partners will count towards the hours.

Pillə is not a PMI Authorized Training Partner. Our course follows the exam’s topics and runs for 40 hours, but which hours count is PMI’s decision. Check the rule on pmi.org before you apply, and ask any centre about it in writing when you choose a course.

What to look for in a course

  • Does the instructor run projects now? Stories of old projects are not the same as today’s project problems.
  • Is the final project your own? With us the course ends with a full plan for a project from your own work: charter, Gantt chart, budget and risks.
  • How big is the group? With more than 20 people the instructor cannot check every plan.
