The brief
The production department wanted to know which field lines to replace first. It gave us a year-long wall thickness survey and seconded NDT technicians for that period.
In figures
- of line surveyed
- 41km
- of wall thickness
- 9,600readings
- sent for replacement
- 27sections
How the work went
- Six NDT technicians worked to the client’s plan for 12 months.
- Thickness was read every 50 m and at every bend; doubtful spots were mapped with phased array.
- Results were collected line by line, with sections nearing the allowed wall marked in red.
Result
41 km of line surveyed; 27 sections went into next year’s replacement plan.
For the first time we know in numbers how much life each line has left, and we split the budget by it.
