The brief

Some of the Siyazan flowlines dated from the 1970s and had worn down to 3 mm wall in places. The client asked us to remove and replace the lines that connect 42 wells to the gathering stations, test every weld and put the new lines under cathodic protection.

How the work went

  • The old lines came out section by section: each new section was ready alongside before the old one was shut in, so no well stood for more than 36 hours.
  • Four welding crews on Pipeliner 200D sets averaged 19 welds a day.
  • Every weld was tested with the OmniScan; reports went to the client’s inspector the same day.
  • Each section passed a 24-hour hydrotest before the cathodic protection was surveyed.

Result

Handed over in 7 months, 11 days ahead of plan; 212,000 man-hours without a lost-time injury.

The client’s words
Replacing the lines without stopping the wells made for a tight schedule, and every week’s plan was met.
